Who We Are

Quality timber supplies and tanalising services for Otago and Southland regions

With a small but excellent crew focused on customer service and quality timber, Young Brothers Posts aims to be the number one supplier of sawn timber, posts and poles for Otago and Southland.

Young Brothers Posts was established over 30 years ago by brothers Ray and Bruce Young. At the time, these timber merchants in Mosgiel were about as low tech as you could get. The only piece of communication technology the business had was a fax machine.

In 2016 Young Brothers Posts was purchased by Peter McNabb and Bruce Wilkinson who both recognised a quality product when they saw it. They kept the business name and set about bringing Young Brothers Posts into the 21st century.

Contact Young Brothers Posts to order your timber supplies and we'll have it ready for you to collect within that day.

Bruce Wilkinson, Managing Director

Growing up on a farm and with 20 years experience as a stock agent, there's not much Bruce doesn't know about farming and fencing. Over the last few years Bruce was the manager of a large post and pole manufacturing operation and now owns and runs Young Brothers Posts; yet he is still the face you'll see at the office when you pull up with the ute or the truck.

Bruce is a strong community rugby man and has been coach of the Tokomairiro Premieres for the last 5 years and has recently been made rep coach for the Otago Country under 18s.

Glen "Swampy" Taylor, Assistant Manager

Glen came along with Bruce when he took over Young Brothers Posts. In past years he has managed timber yards and worked in every aspect of the timber trade from planting to harvesting, kiln drying and boiler operation to distribution and exporting. There's nothing about a piece of wood that Swampy doesn't know. He has his Advanced Treatment Operator's certificate and is the Health and Safety officer for Young Brothers 2016.

Glen is a keen hunter and fisherman; any good weekend will find him on the butt-end of a rifle, shotgun or fishing rod.

Mike Prince, Treatment Plant Operator

Mike is a Mosgiel boy, born and bred, and has worked for Young Brothers Posts for 30 years! He knows every aspect of the operation and every corner of the extensive yard - with a keen sense of customer service. "I enjoy it," he says, "Keeps you fit!"

Mike is a very keen syndicate member racehorse owner, boasting a prize-winning galloper, Mystery Stars, winner of the Winter Cup and 2 Riverton Cups. "And he's not finished yet!" he declares.

Daniel Wilkinson, Post Technician

Following in the footsteps of his father, Bruce, Daniel has had an early introduction to the timber processing industry and now works the stripping, cutting and pointing part of the operation. Like his dad, he's keen to see the Young Brothers operation grow and is pleased to be part of that vision.

Daniel is living in Dunedin now since moving up from his childhood home in the sleepy village of Taieri Mouth, and is enjoying a more city-oriented lifestyle.
